"I got assaulted by the authorities - the police" Arewa MeToo activist narrates how she was allegely accused of lesbianism and beaten up for organizing rally Sadiya Taheer, an activist in northern Nigeria, has narrated how she was allegedly abused by about 20 policemen in Sokoto state and accused of lesbianism for organizing a rally to speak up against violence in the north. Sadiya has angered a lot of people in northern Nigeria with her activism, especially because of how it has emboldened a number of Arewa women to begin opening up about their abuse. A number of people spoke against it and cautioned women against making their stories of abuse public. Taking the Arewa MeToo movement further, a standstill rally was planned to call for the domestication of the VAPP Act (Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act). Oba Fatai Irawo of 'Odi-Olowo' is dead Oba Odi-Olowo of Mushin, Lagos, His Majesty, Oba Abdul Fatai Irawo, has joined his ancestors.     Oba Fatai Irawo, who until his demise, was a founding member of the 50 year old top Lagos flight “High Society Club of Nigeria” and later its Patron died today, Thursday, November 28th in Lagos at the age of 80. His demise was made public by the Secretary General of the Club, Alhaji Mustapha Tahiru. Alhaji Tahiru who confirmed that Oba of Odi-Olowo, Mushin, would be buried tomorrow Friday, 29 November, 2019 at his Palace, 49, Sokunbi Street, Post Office, Mushin at 4pm according to Islamic rites.

Fake soldier arrested in Enugu A fake soldier identified as Madukwe Obinna has been arrested alongside an accomplice, Ifeanyi Agbaraenyi for vandalizing electrical cables in Nsukka, Enugu State.  The resident of Ogbor Hill in Aba who was impersonating a serving soldier was nabbed in Nsukka, Enugu by soldiers deployed for Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1 flagged off on November 1 2019 at Nsulu, Abia State. Parading the suspects on Thursday November 28, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division Nigerian Army Enugu, Major General Lasisi Adegboye said items recovered from the suspect include Nigerian Army Identity Card, a desert camouflage T-shirt, two camouflage T-shirts, a pair of camouflage shorts, one mobile phone and the sum of N40,000. APC threatens to expel member seeking third term for Buhari The All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to have severed its ties with its member who filed a lawsuit in which he sought for the   amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari contest for a third term in office.  Recall LIB reported that Charles Enya, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state who served as the organising secretary for President Buhari's campaign organization during the 2019 general election filed the suit before a Federal High Court in Abakiliki. Former House of Rep member, Tony Okey is dead The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos), on Wednesday, announced the death of a former member of the house, Rep. Tony Okey. Gbajabiamila, who announced at the plenary, said that the late Okey was a member of the Fourth National Assembly. He noted that Okey meritoriously and selflessly served the country in the green chambers from 1999 to 2003. The house, in line with its tradition, observed one-minute silence in honour of the former lawmaker and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Nigerian fraudster, Nnamdi Mgbodile charged with $6.5m romance scam in Atlanta A Nigerian man identified as Nnamdi Marcellus Mgbodile, living in Marietta, Georgia, United States has been arraigned on twenty counts of bank fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.   He was docked on November 19th before the U.S. Magistrate Judge Janet F. King. A federal grand jury indicted Mgbodile on November 6, 2019. Mgbodile was docked the same day that Air Peace chairman, Allen Onyema was also accused of money laundering and bank fraud by the Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia.   One of Mgbodile’s alleged victims, a woman reportedly lost $6.5million to him via romance scam, while he failed to pull through a Business E-mail Compromise Scam of $350,000. “Online romance scams and business email compromise frauds have increasingly become the method of choice for transnational fraudsters targeting...

Court fixes December 11 to hear case of 47 Nigerian men arrested in 2018 for homosexuality in Lagos Forty-seven men who were arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in 2018 at a hotel in Egbeda, Lagos, under the anti-homosexual act were arraigned in Lagos on Wednesday, November 27th and they pleaded not guilty to a charge of showing public displays of affection with members of the same sex.       According to a report by Reuters the accused said that they were part of 57 persons rounded-up by the police.   One of the accused persons, 25-year old Smart Joel, said that police officials use the homosexuality tag to extort bribes. “Police officers will stop you and then get you arrested, extort money from you and begin to call you names. I just wish the case will be quickly dismissed as soon as possible,” Joel said, hoping he would be allowed to get back to his laundry and dry cleaning business. Photos of man allegedly killed by Vigilante member in Osun for 'having illicit affair with his wife' The Osun State Police Command has arrested a member of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mr Emmanuel Oyejide for allegedly killing one Fatai Adegboye popularly known as Otunba during a scuffle. Fatai, who was a member of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) was said to have slumped during an argument with Oyejide in the early hours of Sunday morning. The duo were said to be fighting at Ipetumodu, a town in Ife-North Local Government Area of Osun State. According to reports, Oyejide, who is said to be from Sooko compound in the town accused the deceased, who hailed from Atelebo compound, of having an illicit affair with his wife. We are ready for Kogi State supplementary elections – INEC The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it is ready for the supplementary election into Kogi West Senatorial District and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency seats both in Kogi State.     Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Prof. James Apam made this known on Tuesday in Lokoja and disclosed that the supplementary election would hold in 75 polling units in the two affected areas.   Giving the breakdown at a stakeholders meeting, Apam said the elections will be held in 53 polling units in Kogi West, and 22 polling units in Ajaokuta Federal Constituency. “In Kogi West what we did was to apply the ‘Margin of Lead Principle’, which stipulates that when the differences in the margin between the leading candidate and runner up is not up to the number of cancelled votes, a supplementary election will be held in those areas.   “The leading party (APC) is ...

23-year-old man stabs his step-mother to death in Nasarawa state A 23-year-old man identified as Ahmed Abdullahi has been arrested by the Nasarawa state police command for stabbing his mother to death at their residence in Agyaragu area of Lafia, the state's capital.  Though the cause of their "misunderstanding" is not known it was learnt that the suspect first attacked his step-mother with a kitchen knife he borrowed from a neighbour, leaving her with a cut on her leg.  After she ran out of the house shouting for help, Ahmed reportedly pushed her to the ground before slitting her throat. Taxify driver accused of throwing a female passenger out of his speeding car because she wanted to pay him via online transfer and not cash (graphic photos) A Taxify driver has been accused of throwing a female passenger out of his moving car because she said she had no cash and wanted to pay for the trip by doing an online transfer. The victim's friend shared the story to Twitter alongside photos of the horrific injuries inflicted on the Taxify passenger. The incident reportedly happened in Abuja and has been reported to the police by the alleged victim and the driver also. Meanwhile, the victim had to be admitted in a hospital after she was rushed there by an elderly man who saw when she was thrown out of the speeding Taxify. She suffered bruises to her skin, especially the skin on her back and elbows which peeled off when she rolled along the rough road after being thrown out of the moving car.
